The end was the beginning

    Sometime around 2000 I had the idea for the ending. I thought it would make a good tragic/romantic resolution for a situation where lovers are faced with insurmountable odds. I wasn't sure how to construct the setting to get the main characters into the desired dire circumstance, so the idea just lingered in the back of my mind for about 2 years.

    In late 2002 a chain of events left me with a romantically-shattered mindset. For some unknown reason this story idea became prevalent in my thoughts once again as I nursed the wound of a recent heartbreak. I sat myself down each night for about 3 weeks, listening only to carefully-chosen music which was condusive to the mood I wanted to create. I knew where I wanted to end up, so I started writing the story that would lead me there.

    I don't know if the attempt was successful, but I'm fairly happy with the result.
